Today was the official one-month anniversary of our arrival in Namibia. We celebrated with a bonfire at the river basin last night and burgers and fries at a local lodge this afternoon.
It's hard to believe just 30 days have passed since we landed in Windhoek after the longest flight on record. Here are a few pictures to document the adventure. (Apologies in advance for the layout and design--it's too expensive for me to actually SEE what these images look like after I upload them)
Also, for those of you who've asked about sending letters and packages, my P.O. Box in Khorixas is ready for action. I've heard from other volunteers that it's a reliable site and parcels are rarely tampered with. "Holy-ing it up" with "Sister Jill" etc. is still probably a good idea. We have been warned that NamPost can be somewhat unreliable during the holidays, so if you have plans to ship anything it may be best to wait until after the first of the year.

Hey, Jilly!
You read my mind! I was wondering when you were going to send some pictures. Enjoyed being able to put some faces with the names we've heard. Did you help to pluck the chicken?
Some people have been talking to me about your experiences there. How would you feel about their posting questions in your comment section here and perhaps you could answer them in a later blog entry?
Have a good week and we'll talk with you soon.
Love,
MOM <3 :-]
Jill! The pictures are amazing. I especially love the shot of the sunset (and the mosquito netting--ha). Looks like you are having fun and smiling...just what I wanted to see. FYI: I'll wait until after the first of Jan to send you a care package. Love you!

jill-inator! I am into the shade tree picture the most! not quite like the ones we have in michigan, eh? I am so happy to see pics! love them...I'm sure we shall text it up soon. xo-h
i lovelove the cloud picture. love.
also, like to see that you're still getting in on the urban camping action. although, it's not really urban anymore. and you actually have a mosquito net.
kisses.
Hey Jill!
I'm totally with you that palm trees are "shade" trees. In Phoenix, parking under one of those in July means you got the coveted "shaded" parking spot at the mall. :0)
Glad to hear that all is well. I love seeing the pics! It looks like you've found a great group of girls to hang with too.
Take care and have fun!
Love,
Kristin, Brad, and Erin

Sounds, and looks like you are having an amazing time. I'm so glad I get to experience it vicariously through your blog. I want to hear how the hitchhiking back from your site went.
Miss you!

That's the same smiling face I know and love, only it's a half-globe away. I'm so happy to see your Africa experience is shaping up to everything you hoped for and more. Miss you and love you loads.

ps- looking at pics this weekend and came across those from our holiday celebration in front of your fabulous tree last year...good memories!

What up? Hope everything is good in Africa. I just got back from vacation and caught up on all of your blog entries. expect a letter soon. Happy Holidays.
Agreed with comment above: The shade tree picture is the perf. And I would also like to know if you helped pluck the chickens. I'm still getting used to phrases like, "We celebrated with...burgers," etc.
Anybut, I thought you'd appreciate some updates on what you're missing here. This is all from yesterday: Some guy on the subway called me a [male genitalia] because I didn't let go of the handrail and move out of his way until the train came to a stop in the station. Then a lady at the pet store picked up her daughter by the arm and dragged her outside while also spanking her, which, contrary to her likely intentions, actually made the little girl cry more. Later, the customer in front of me at the deli got in an argument with the clerk, used some racial epithets I had to look up online, and ended up stealing a dozen eggs and kicking over a bucket of flowers on the sidewalk. So, don't sweat it—I've got New York under control, you just worry about Africa.

Also, P.S., I am not going to the ALM holiday party last week.
